Start Minimized
This menu option allows you to specify that TenKey Tutor will always start as a minimized window. This process loads TenKey Tutor into your computer's memory, ready for action. (Be sure to turn Password Protection off first unless you want to require a password to use the calculator.) But, rather than immediately appearing on you computer screen, only an icon appears in the Windows Task Bar (the system tray at the bottom of your computer screen.)
In this condition, TenKey Tutor is now just a click away whenever you need a quick calculation. Click to pop the TenKey Calculator onto the screen. Run your calculation and save your paper tape (if needed). Then hit the Minimize icon in its upper right corner to tuck TenKey Tutor back away, down in the Windows Task Bar again.
If you inadvertently close TenKey Tutor rather than minimize it, it will restart in the Windows Task Bar again the next time you click the TenKey Tutor icon on the Desktop or in the Windows Start / Programs menu. From there, click its icon in the Windows Task Bar to bring it onto the screen again.
Disabling Start
Minimized
To prevent TenKey Tutor from automatically opening in the Task Bar, clear the checkmark beside this item on the Options menu. Then close TenKey Tutor and select Yes, when asked if you wish to save the changes.
Create Startup Command by Drag and Drop
You may wish to have TenKey Tutor start minimized automatically when you start your computer. If so, here is how:
Right click the Start button.
Select Open.
Double-click the Programs folder.
Double click the Startup folder.
If you still have the TenKey Tutor shortcut icon showing on your Desktop, slide the Startup folder to the side, so you can see both this folder and the TenKey Tutor icon on the Desktop. If not, detour to the Create Shortcut topic below.
Click the icon once. Then hold down the [Ctrl] key. Now click and drag the icon into the Startup folder, making a copy of the Desktop icon in this folder.
Right-click the new Startup icon and select Properties.
Select the Shortcut tab in the Properties dialog and click to the right end of the program name you see in the Target window.
Add the phrase /StartMinimized one or two spaces after the existing program name and trailing quote mark. Example: "C:\Program Files\Security Development Corporation\TenKey\TenKey Tutor.exe" /StartMinimized
Click OK, to finish your edit. Now if you double-click the resulting icon in the Startup folder, TenKey Tutor will start and appear in the System Tray, ready to pop-up whenever you need it. And it will now appear there automatically whenever you start your computer.
Close any folders that may have been left open while traversing to the Startup folder.
Create Shortcut
If you no longer have the TenKey Tutor shortcut on your Desktop, you will need to create a new shortcut in the Startup folder...
Right click any open area in the Startup folder.
Select New/Shortcut. Create Shortcut window opens.
Click Browse button.
Enter C:\Program Files\Security Development Corporation\TenKey (or wherever you installed TenKey Tutor. If you don't know where that is, from within TenKey Tutor select Help\About TenKey Tutor. The path you want is the Application Folder.)
Double click on TenKey Tutor.exe in the Browse Window. You will be returned to the Create Shortcut window.
Select Next.
In the Select a name for the shortcut field, enter a name, such as TenKey Calculator, then select Finish.
Now return to Step 7 in the Create Startup Icon by Drag and Drop instructions above to finish the setup.
