Save...

In all Learning Modes, you can save to disk the contents of any paper tape you have created by selecting File / Save / Paper Tape.  A window will open with a default name and location selected, which you may change if you wish.  If not, click Save to finish.  Most people will not save their tapes unless they need them for future reference, such as an audit, or for skill measurement on tape.

In Drill for Accuracy, Drill for Speed, and Use Calculator modes only (Modes 4, 5, and 7), you can save your drills/notes/comments in the Data Tape window by selecting File / Save / Data Tape.  A window will open with a default name and location selected, which you may change if you wish.  If not, simply click Save to finish.

You may use the diskette icon on the tool bar to save in either the Data Tape or Paper Tape window, but your cursor must be located in the window of choice before clicking the button.

Building Your Own Data Tapes

If you wish to save a Paper Tape to be used as a drill in Measure Skills (Mode 6), the following steps must be followed:

  1. Select File / Save / Paper Tape from the main menu.  The file must be named SkillTest**.tkt, using one or two numerals instead of the asterisks.  This format is mandatory if the file is to be located by TenKey Tutor for display in the Data Tape window.

When you are in the Measure Skills mode, files load automatically in the Data Tape window for use in testing; or, you may select a drill tape from the drop-down window at the top of the Data Tape window.  The tapes you build will display in the drop-down window if you have saved it correctly above.  However, the name that displays in the drop-down is not the file name.  It is whatever is typed on the first line of the Paper Tape you just saved, which is not necessarily what you want to see there.  So...

  1. After saving the file, open it using WordPad or Notepad.

  2. Go to the top line of the text and enter the name you would like to see displayed in the drop-down list.

  3. Save and close the file.

You are now ready to load your file and begin testing.
