Password Protect

Check this option if you wish to use a password to protect your records from prying eyes (or little fingers).  The Password Protect item on the Options menu allows you to decide whether or not you need to have a password required to open TenKey Tutor.  Users with a single-user license may not want to log on with a password each time they open TenKey Tutor.  However, if there are others who use the computer, the single user may decide to keep password protection on to prevent others from adding data to their records.  Multi-user editions should probably always use a password to insure each user's records are kept intact, but a multi-user can remove protection from his own records without affecting other users.

This option is on by default when you open TenKey Tutor the first time, but is ineffective unless you use a non-blank password.   When a password has been entered, you can remove this protection in either of the following two ways:

1.  Password Protect

Disable - Select Options.  You should see a check mark next to the Password Protect item.  When you click on it, the menu will close and you will see a message that says "Your password is no longer required."  Click the OK button to complete.  Until you click on it again, that menu item will appear unchecked when the Options menu is open.  This process disables an existing password; it doesn't change or remove it.

Enable - Select Options.  You should not see a check mark next to the Password Protect item.  When you click on it, the menu will close and you will see a message that says "Your most recent password has been reactivated."  Click the OK button to complete.  Until you click on it again, that menu item will appear checked when the Options menu is open.  This process re-enables the existing password.  If one did not exist, you will have the opportunity to add one the next time you login or you can do it now by selecting Options / Change Password.

2.  Change Password

Select Options / Change Password.  The TenKey Tutor login screen will open.  Highlight the current password (which is being displayed in asterisks) and press the [Delete] key.  Click OK or press [Enter].  This process actually changes your password to a blank.  (See Change Password for more information on this option.)

When closing TenKey Tutor, user records are usually saved automatically.  However, if you see a message asking if you want to save changes, be sure to answer "Yes" to save this new setting.

The next time you open TenKey Tutor, you will see the login screen only temporarily during the open process.  Don't blink - you may miss it.  It will not be necessary (or even possible) to enter your name or password until you decide to re-activate the password protection by selecting Options / Password Protect or change your password from a blank to a word by using Options / Change Password again.

NOTE:

If password protection is disabled either by the checkbox or by use of a blank password, anyone will be able to access your records, add sessions of their own, and print your reports.
